Youth Entrepreneurship Club counts one year and a couple of months of life! We want to celebrate with you this first year and all that we have experienced so far. Events, activities and actions that strengthened our identity and outlined our future path.
In April of 2015, a group of young engineers, students of Technical University of Crete, decided to create Youth Entrepreneurship Club, a non-profit, non-governmental organization through which, we wanted to fulfill our dream. To promote the concept of female, youth and social entrepreneurship, contribute to professional training and networking of vulnerable groups.
All of us, enthusiastic about innovation and entrepreneurship, believe that in our country we have all the tools we need to take our business ideas into the market and bring society and educational institutions, closer.
Out of love for our country, we want to keep productive minds and create with what we have, into the here and now. We believe solutions promoting sustainable growth, global competitiveness and a shared economy, will offer employment, autonomy and motivation to other people who share our vision.
So, we have taken action and during this first year of our existence, the calendar says:
October 2015: “What would I do if I was a student” Approach of the student community and presentation of the need for subversive thought and personal and professional growth in one of the most creative periods of our lives.
February 2016: “Startup Europe Week Chania”. Pan – European event to present and enhance the local startup ecosystem. With over 400 visitors, 45 speakers 20 hours of lectures, 30 volunteers, the support of 20 local key players and five Cretan startups in 1 pitching contest, the event ended with huge success. It was the biggest in Greece and one of the biggest in Europe. It also was the first event about entrepreneurship, of this magnitude, ever held in Crete.
March 2016: “Datathon Competition “ All day competition, featuring data analysis and visualization, aiming to stimulate interest for the Data Analysis industry that applies variously in many industry fields, leading to optimization of business practices and better decision making.
March 2016 – Today: Gathering food from flea Markets Chania. With the help of willing producers at the flea market, members of YEC collect unsold food products still in good condition and carry them to the city soup kitchens, highlighting the joy of unity and cooperation.
May 2016: «Europe Day» Participation and support of the European Commission event in Chania, where we talked about modern business environment and the opportunities provided by new technologies implementation to crucial Greek industries.
And it goes on!
We developed our website and overall internet presence, we approached public and private institutions with cooperation proposals and we continuously promote networking and mutual support of our local social ecosystem members (indicatively, we undertook the
Social media kit of Topeka-TOPSA programs and support the Chania Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Organization for the Development of Crete S.A. (O.A.K. S.A.), while participating in workshop planning, live streaming events support etc.)
We constantly work with the Media, Public and Private Universities, European networks, other NGO and NPO, and businesses involved in tourism, food, catering, energy and technology. The goal of these partnerships, is to conduct seminars, study tours, conferences, workshops and structures supporting incubator function that will benefit our members, young entrepreneurs, startups and the above collaborating institutions.
We already offer our active support and cooperation to the following StartUps: ArchipelagosΗub, Hopwave, Supermarketnow, Landoop και ReSTartAPP in research and development, counselling, networking and Marketing.
Youth Entrepreneurship Club, will continue to work on achieving its objective to create a strong local entrepreneurial ecosystem where social partners, entrepreneurial initiatives and citizens will act together. We have our eyes and ears open to the real social and market needs, implementing projects that enhance communication and highlight a culture of unity and cooperation, from Greece to the world.
For the next year of our operation, we have set more demanding goals, with even greater impact such as:
- Educational trips in Crete and various European destinations to bring our members in touch with best business practices as already applied in collaborative incubators and startups, to guide our new efforts.
- Finding new job positions in cooperating companies
- Calling, encouraging and supporting new startups
- #crete_startups movement development
- Deepening cooperation with TEI of Crete, MAICh and other educational institutions
After a year of life, we are already counting 60 registered members, 40 volunteers that have supported our actions with their valuable assistance and disposal, and more than 1,000 followers in social media.
